On the flip side it would be equally unfair to tell Mosley he flat out has to fight Pacquiao at 140.. I think there is some sense to these catchweights but they have to be approached sensibly.
well then the fight shouldnt happen, and i always thought it shouldnt. let mosley go after the other top welterweights. and let pac decide weather he wants to stay at 140 or go back down to 135. **** the fight and **** catchweights. its just a way for top fighters to avoid taking on hungry up and coming fighters and take less meaningful fights for more money to please the mainstream fan at the expense at the diehards.

Other than Juan Manuel Marquez, who would you rather see Manny Pacquiao fighting? Personally, I really want to see Mayweather -vs- Pacquiao. Of course I'd love to see Mayweather fight Cotto or Mosley, but from a Pacquiao standpoint I am definitely excited about this potential bout.

mayweather-pacquiao doesnt need no damn catchweight. floyd could make 140 easily, hell he could make 135. these guys are not that far away from eachother in size so theres no need for a catchweight. its as simple as that, if two fighters can meet at a REAL weightclass do it, if they cant, dont. eighter way forget catchweights. and if mayweather-pacquiao wasnt made cuz floyd didnt wanna go to 140 n pac didnt want to go to 147, then **** it.

I'm pretty sure most posters on NSB would call you nuts for thinking Mayweather can make 135 comfortably.

I just pointed it out b/c I've actually heard a lot of folks stressing the point that Mayweather can't even make 140. Which I imagine he can however considering it's Floyd, no one is going to force him to come to 140. I think it's ok to use catchweights. I don't however think you should be able to take a belt from a weight class without having fought for the belt at said weightclass.

well then we will just have to agree to disagree. and while we are pointing things out might i add NSB seems to be agreeing with me as far as catchweights are concerned .. peace

Only if it's a case where it makes things more fair and the bigger guy wouldn't be totally drained.

Roach wanting Mosley to go down to 142 is more of a case where Mosley would more likely to just be dead at the weight, not to try to "even things out".

Whitaker-Chavez being at 145, for example, I don't have much of a problem with.

catchweights should be rare occassions. a fighter should be fighting 2-3 catchweight fights in a row unless the money is just too good to pass up.

besides, bigger fighters shouldn't be picking on little fighters to begin with.
