Wlad vs Vitali will never happen despite what has been reported

There were reports at the weekend that Wladimir and Vitali Klitshcko will consider fighting each other “if their mother gives her blessing to the contest”.

It was a throw away set of comments made in the conditional mood. But it will never happen

I was there with around twenty other journalists at the ill-fated press conference in Stanglwirt, in the foothills of the Austrian Alps, on a press visit set up by Setanta Sports last Wednesday, when Wladimir touched on the subject. His ruminations on fighting his brother were split by the news that David Haye had pulled out of their title fight.

Wladimir looked bleach white when he heard the news. He was ready, willing and able, in his mind and body, to deliver a boxing lesson to the Bermondsey boy whom he sees as a heavyweight upstart. Klitschko was about to talk about he and his brother (who holds the WBC belt, to Wladimir’s IBO WBO and IBF gongs) and control of the overall heavyweight crown, when he contradicted a question suggesting the brothers' plan was to control all four main belts (the WBA eludes them) and then ride off into the sunset.

But it was tongue-in-cheek. Klitschko brought up the notion that he would fight Vitali, but he would only do so if their mother, to whom they have made a pact that they will not to meet in the ring, changes her mind and allows them to. Ma Klitschko has not been available for comment.

"We are going to talk to our mother again because we know how much interest such a fight would create and it would mean that one of us would be the supreme heavyweight champion. Of course she would not be happy and if we did fight I would be very worried about the health of my brother because it would be very bloody and very bad.

We are very competitive and it would be for real.” But the truth is, it will never happen. "I am the better technical boxer but he is the stronger of the two. It would be interesting." He added with a grin and a wink. It will simply never happen.

I think everyone knew that already, but I still say Vitali would beat his brother up.
