haha...true... imagine Pac 148lbs on fight time while Shane weighs around 154-160lbs.

I love Ring Magazine, they have the best writers in the business. But their reasoning behind not recoginzing Mosley as the Welterweight champion makes little sense. Shane defeated Antonio Margarito, which was a 1 vs 3 match-up. But Mosley was not crowned the champion. Yet in 2002, when Vernon Forrest beat Mosley in a 1 vs 3 match-up, Forrest was crowned the champion. (Andrew Lewis was the number 2 contender at the time) No consistency from the bible of boxing. Many other observers, including Cyberboxingzone.com recognize Mosley as the lineal title holder... "

Note that not all lineal champions are crowned by Ring Magazine.
Honestly, ring champion or not, i dont think mosley is the clear undisputed welterweight when cotto holds a win over him. I dont care who says what, dude is not the linear champion, if pac fought him and won, there is no way in hell id sit there and say pac is linear champ at welter.

I gotta agree, mosley is not the lineal champ until the winner of cotto/clottey loses to mosley.

              Why not???

              Frazier beats Ali

              Foreman beats Frazier

              Ali beats Foreman.

              Who's the real heavyweight champ??

follow the bouncin' belt.......Floyd retires as the linear champ at 147.....at the time Cotto was the WBA champ aka #1 contender.......with Floyd no longer in the game.......Cotto became in the eyes of MOST as the legitimate 147 king........Margarito took that title and Shane snatched it from him.......so where's the confusion?!?.......Shane Mosley is the linear champ at 147 and Clottey/Cotto winner would be the #1 contender.....I just wish it was just one belt so that all the over-political BS talk about who lost to who and he holds a win over him mess would be irrelivent.....Margarito beat Cotto and NOONE would deny he was the REAL champ at 147..........well Shane did a job on Margarito so thats simple math to me

what kind of counter argument is that? if anything, it shows how nessecary rematches are to deciding who is who. mosley is not the unidisputed best welter and if pac were to beat him, especially at a catch weight, neither is he.

Between the two, I think cotto has the better chance because both of them are under top rank although we have to consider the fact that cotto ain't fighting anyone below 145 lbs.

Well im not going to argue the catchweight because i agree it would have to be at 147 or no dice.

But linear champ is defined as the man who beat the man who beat the man who beat the man.

Ali was regarded as THE heavyweight champion after beating Foreman despite having a loss to Frazier. And the rematch didnt come until later.

Cotto beat Mosley but lost to Margarito. Mosley destroys Margarito. I believe your perspective stems from the plaster issue with Cotto vs Margarito but as far as i'm concerned....right now Mosley is THE welterweight champ.
