Molina Steps in Late, Upsets Perez on ESPN2 FNF

By Cliff Rold - Friday night, at what turned out to be a sadly almost empty Mahi Shrine Temple in Miami, Florida, was supposed to be a bit of a crossroads Jr. Middleweight bout between former Welterweight titlist Carlos Quintana and 32-year old former contender Danny Perez (34-6, 17 KO) of San Diego, California. A late pull out from Quintana allowed it to become a night of opportunity for 26-year old Mexican Carlos Molina (17-4-1, 5 KO) of Chicago, Illinois, who stopped Perez’s winning streak at three with a commanding unanimous decision. It looked extremely empty. It was sad looking at the "crowd"...

Props to Molinia he fought a good fight for having a very short time to prepare.

I bet Quintana is feeling pretty ****ty now since he could have easily won that fight, easier than what Molina did.

I bet you that Ishe Smith and his Public Relations Firm (boxing-talk) already had a press release ready and were just waiting for Molina to be blasted in less than 2 rounds. As the fight went on I could imagine Ishe telling himself and whomever was there with him how ****ty both fighters look, how he would have blasted them and how unfair ESPN is. Well, it turn out to be a good scrap and I'm of the opinin that Ishe would have stink up the joint with either fighter. Good call ESPN!

Nothing against Ishe, I know he has talent just not a fan friendly style.

Molina was really impressive last night... If he had any pop at all, he could make some noise.
