ALFREDO ANGULO "I THOUGHT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO FIGHT IN THE RING, NOT RUN!"
By Ryan Burton
**********'s Ryan Burton speaks to Alfredo "El Perro" Angulo after his loss to Kermit Cintron.
Ryan Burton: Now that you have had a few days to reflect on your first career loss what went wrong in your fight against Kermit Cintron?
Alfredo Angulo: I just couldn't get going the way I normally do. It wasn't the performance I was looking for obviously.
RB: You didn't seem to be as strong as you normally were. Your jabs looked slow. To me you didn't seem to be yourself.
AA: Not just to you but to everybody. I just couldn't do what I needed to do.
RB: Cintron is known as a strong puncher. Did he ever hurt you?
AA: Honestly I thought he would be a harder puncher. He hurt me once but really he didn't hit as hard as I thought he would.
RB: Cintron was outpointing you the first half of the fight but he seemed to fade in the last 4-5 rounds. Did you notice him tiring?
AA: Yes I did. He started running and holding. We are men I thought we are supposed to fight in the ring, not run.
RB: Do you want a rematch?
AA: I would like a rematch but I am sure Cintron doesn't.
RB: There were rumors that you were sick before the fight. Is that true?
AA: I don't want to make excuses but yes I was sick 4 days before the fight. I didn't fly with my team to Florida until the day before the fight so I could recuperate a little bit.
RB: In hindsight would it have been better to postpone the fight?
AA: No I didn't want to do that. I didn't want to let HBO and everyone else down 4 days before the fight.
RB: When do you want to return to the ring?
AA: When ever my promoter (Gary Shaw) wants me to. If he had a fight for me next month I would be ready.
RB: We look forward to your return to the ring. Closing thoughts?
AA: I just want to say to all the fans that I will be back better than ever. I am sorry they didn't get to see "El Perro" that they are used to seeing. Next time it will be a better show.
