$$$ has ruined this era of boxing.....

"Talent" in this generation of boxers is great....but money (not talking about Floyd, but actual cold hard cash) has ruined this fine era of boxing. Don't get me wrong....I am grateful with all the recent bouts of the last 5yrs. Most of the time, the main events of so called mega fights live up to their expectations, while the undercards on these events generally suck at best. Flip side, the regular BAD and Showbox bouts are generally exciting, in my opinion...because when you're still trying to make a name for yourself, you don't care about matchups or money (at least not yet)...ask all prospects...the main goal is to win a Belt. While the Elites are after money and could care less about Championship status...
Most of the top talents...are not fighting each other or are having a hard time getting fights done to fight each other due to money. I understand the "economy" is bad, but in order to TRULY bring back the sport of boxing and not the BUSINESS of boxing....fighters need to look at the bright side of fighting for a "measley" $2-$5million payday....
    1) Fighting for a max of 36 minutes.....if you are truly Great or Elite....shouldn't you feel that you can't get hurt or would be able to withstand your opponents punches?
    2) What other profession pays you that much for 36 minutes? Bill Gates doesn't earn that much in 36 mins. Lebron or Kobe don't make that much in 48mins of 1 game.
    3) Elite's are fighting only 2-3 times a year....you mean to tell me, even at $2mil a fight, making $6mil a year...you want to make more? You want to make more $$$, fight more fights....yes I know the body needs rest to recover from previous fights....but that's why your "elite" right?

Don't get me wrong...MONEY IS the end game for all professional fighters....but don't let it be the downfall or an excuse.

Few examples of "Warriors".....Juan Marquez.....Glen Johnson....Paul Williams.....Miguel Cotto are the ones who come to mind as I've NEVER heard of a fight invloving them and issues about money.....

I don't know guys...rip me a new one if you like....but I just wanted to get this off my chest...DISCUSS?

I agree with the 2nd half....but I again question the "Elites"...if you are so good....yes people will pay to see you guys fight, that's why you are "Elite"....guarantee the fighters "practical" paydays...then the winner gets the lion's share of PPV revenue.
Go ahead and demand a payday, you've put your dues in, but not at the cost of your so called legacy....
Are fighters so scared of what happened to Tyson, could happen to them? Is that the reason of mega paydays?
I doubt it...but just another seed to plant...

If promoters actually had "ethics"....you think that fighters would'nt be as spoiled as they are today?

What is better for the boxers can have quite an opposite effect on the fans.

Fighters in the past fought more often because they had to, they didn't get paid as much. Not that most fans could watch the fights anyway, since there was no cable TV and internet and all that technology, but besides that, it's obviously better for the fans when fighters are fighting more often.

The bigger name fighters generally get paid more now, so they fight less often.

An exception in the past are HW champions. They've always been paid well, so they defended their titles less often. Especially pre-Louis.

The numerous titles are annoying, but for the fighters, especially the high risk/low reward fighters, it can be a good thing. They have more titles to choose from, more mandatory positions they can fight their way into, and can use belts as a marketing/promoting tool.

$$ and corruption have screwed up things in every era though.

            Just in different ways.

Promoters and boxers are naturally looking out for their own financial well-being.

The root failure lies in so-called sanctioning bodies, failing to establish a sane
system of rankings/mandatories. The emergence of multiple sanctioning bodies
(WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, IBO, etc.) just proves their failure.

One or two sanctioning bodies, worldwide, used to be enough.

Boxing is a like any any sport today its moved into F1 competition and all that that brings , as far as saying the JMMs and Glenn Johnson etc never being heard about money , its because they are not on top ,, the very top guys alway are on the money trail and its always been like that with the top of the tree , same as its always the guys down the ladder calling everybody out , once your on top the air is different , was no different for Robinson Ali and right back to Dempsey ,,,,, you guys just get into the hype too deep , one live interview turns into 20 rehashed written articles each one saucing it up a little different which turns into 50 threads which turns into 100 arguments , not too many free thinkers on this board more like a mob sheep .

I would like to differ about your JMM and Johnson comment...."not on top"?
JMM is the #2 p4p fighter...some could argue #1 or at least tied...is the legit LW champ....just beatdown two Legit titleholders.....1 young and hungry...the other experienced and never been KOd....is fighting the returning previous p4p king....is guaranteed $5mil while Floyd is getting $15mil....all the while still bitching about wanting to fight Manny...and not a word about money....Glen...well....if your definition of "not on top" is not getting fights with Elite/A-level fighters, not having any belts....then yes...but NO ONE IS WILLING TO GIVE HIM A SHOT because they KNOW DAM WELL what O.G triple O.G is capable of doing to them.....

And I'd like to think that I am not a sheep....check my post histories, threads and others.....no sheep following here bud.
