One of the biggest myths in boxing......

Ricky Hatton was "the man" at 140. This was never ever EVER the case, and looking back at it, i dont see how anyone would think so. So lets look back.

The myth starts on june 4, 2005, when ricky out worked an 100 yr old kostya tszyu, and won a title at 140.

Then, he went on to ko carlos maussa in 9 (victor ortiz did this in 1)

Next came Juan Urango, who manny ppl think beat hatton up, and forced him to box instead of brawl.

Then hatton moved up, got knocked out, moved back down, got scuffed up by lazcano, beat paullie, and got ko'd by his first real challenge at 140.

So how the fucking fuck has hatton ever been a kingpin of ANYTHING?!?!?!?!?!?

KT had the lineal title, so Hatton's win in that fight made him the man to beat there til Pac beat him.

Cause Tsyzu was the lineal champ wasn't he? Regardless if he came to the ring on a zimmerframe.

Only that win when he cheated against Tszyu. There were plenty of fighters that could have beaten when the division started heating up. Holt, Torres, Bradley, Witter, Kotelnik.

Hatton was the lineal champ, & undefeated at the weight to boot. No way around that.

Hatton did become the man after beating Tszyu in 2005 but his reign wasn't all that impressive. Five successful defenses against Maussa, Urango, Castillo, Lazcano and Malignaggi in a span of 4 years (as well as two attempts to go up in weight) and then a decisive KO loss to Pacquiao in two rounds.

TS is right, when you look at it objectivley he really wasnt that impressive, not to mention he dodged fighters like Cotto etc, what he did have for whatever reason is a big following, and crowds that continue to chant theres only one Ricky Hatton even after hes been ktfo.

The thing is Hatton won't admit his failings, he blames all those around him for his problems, Mayweather sr, billy graham, the weight the flu, this that and the other.

While initially I responded to his latest humiliation with anger I still respect Hatton as a (former)fighter and a human being, he at least tried to fight the best, albeit half assedly and using idiotic tactics and getting brutally beaten twice. However I cannot support him as a boxer anymore, there is no point in doing so. Whatever limited arsenal he did have has erroded beyond belif and him getting in the ring again would be dangerous to his health imo.

His biggest win was an unimpressive sloppy affair against a faded tier 2 atg.

                  Hatton thanks for the memories
