Mosley: Money won't be an issue for a Pacman fight

“Sugar” Shane Mosley said he really want to do the fight with pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao that he would not allow money to become an issue to make the match possible.

Mosley told Ring Magazine writer Michael Rosenthal that Pacquiao will not have the same problems he had when his camp was negotiating for the fight against Ricky Hatton.

“I think we can make it easy,” he said in Rosenthal’s article posted on RingTV.com.

Pacquiao has experienced a heated tug of war in revenue shares with Hatton that one of the Brit’s handlers called him a “spoiled young kid.”

“Everyone does the money thing; they want this, they want that. It’s like they try to prevent it from happening,” said Mosley, the reigning WBA welterweight champion.

This is in contrast to former pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. who has already disclosed that he would not accept a 50-50 share for a Pacquiao fight.

“I definitely want to do this. It would be historical, a fight I think boxing needs,” Mosley said.

Mosley said he was shocked over the Filipino boxing star’s phenomenal win against Hatton.

Pacquiao flattened the British champion with a picture perfect left hook to the jaw to end their May 2 bout in Round 2.

“It opened my eyes, surprised me a little bit, the way he hurt Hatton with different types of shots. I think Hatton caused some of the problems himself by throwing caution to the wind and keeping his chin in the air,” said Mosley.

“But that doesn’t negate the fact that Pacquiao had the power to do that. It was a shocker to me,” he added.

Pacquiao catch weight to take ‘some effort’

Mosley said to make it to his proposed 144-catch weight, he would do some serious effort to shed off the excess pounds.

“In my case, that’s a lot of weight to lose,” he said. “I previously fought at 154. Coming down to 147 can be a task. Then coming down even further, that is a real task. Even one pound makes a big difference.”

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach said he prefers the matchup since Mosley has the tendency to come directly to his opponents.

Roach said the fight, however, should take place at “143 or 144.” Mosley said “I think I can get to 144.”

Rosenthal said the 37-year-old Mosley has not fought below 146 pounds since 1999, when he stopped John Brown in the final defense of his 135-pound title. “Sugar” has already fought above 147 pounds 10 times and four times at exactly 154 pounds.
