Many people know Ross Thompson from the Boxing ring, but this time it is what happened outside of sports that is making headlines.
"They stabbed me ten times, and shot me once," said Thompson.
Early Sunday morning, the well known local boxer was coming out of a club on East Delevan.
"We were leaving that bar going to another bar and then we just stopped. We were just talking. Somebody just confronted me, and you know I got into it with the guys, and all hell broke loose," said Thompson.
Thomspon says he does not know the men, and that there were about thirty of them.
"I got stabbed ten times and I never felt myself getting stabbed. I guess my adrenaline was so high just from, you know, fighting," said Thompson.
When he heard a gunshot, he says he started running. Thompson went to ECMC. He has no idea why it happened.
"They might know who I am. They might not like me over something or they might be jealous of me or whatever. You know, that is just how it is," said Thompson.
The boxer's mom has been with him at the hospital.
"Just unfortunate that it happened, but thank God he is very lucky, very lucky, to be shot and stabbed ten times, and still here to talk about it. So I thank god for that," said Marguerite Thompson.
The irony is he was supposed to fight Chris Henry for the NABA title in Texas June 4th. Henry was tasered and arrested last week, charged with resisting arrest and public intoxication, and the fight called off.
"If the fight would have been on, I would have been training for the fight, and I would not have been out," added Ross Thompson.
Buffalo Police continue their investigation, and there have been no arrests in the case.
