The most dangerous thing about what Haye was doing in that fight was..........when he was backing out he was not stepping over to the side, he was going straight back and shifting all his weight onto his back leg, which can leave very open if the opponent doubles up on the jab and puts a right hand behind it.
True, there is one monement where he backs straight up, into the ropes and corner and Barrett gets a chance at him. If that had gone any worse and/or was against a different opponent, Haye could have had some real trouble.
