Those are the top belts recognized around the world, but does it really matter to you?

It seems within the last 5-8 yrs that belts don't really matter anymore. (to the fans that is)

Fans just want to see good matchups.

for the fighter though .. it matters somewhat. You get more money if you have a belt "in most cases" unless you name is very marketable.

    What do you guys think?

I care about belts. A big fight without a belt on the line is not the same.

Cosign. Even if it's a paper title, fights for belts just have a lil more luster to em. The alphabet belts ain't the be all end all tho.

Depends I think a belt is a stepping stone almost to becoming elite. Once you've proven you no longer need to hold a belt for the best to want to fight you then the belt acted as almost a stepping stone.

Hopkins, Pacquiao, Mayweather and the recently retired Calzaghe all no longer need belts because if you beat any of those forementioned fighters then it's a shortcut to the sports elite.

i agree. belts don't necessarily bring more money, as much as fighters think it sounds better to be introduced as the "--- Champion of the World."

like you say, if you're a known commodity, the belts won't matter much.....i think everybody recognizes dawson as "the" LHW Champ, even tho he doesn't have a belt, and doesn't seem to care. ppl will recognize the winner of the johnson-dawson rematch as the man at LHW.
