Dont Blame Berto, Blame The Trainer!

1st of all Berto is still relatively inexperinced so he's going to struggle some with Southpaws as we all saw in the Collazo fight. However, thats not a big deal to me and is completely normal. I thought people were way too hard on Berto for taking this fight. He didnt fight Collazo but he tried hard to get a fight with both Cotto & Mosley and couldnt. I looked at it that the team felt that the kid shouldnt have back to back super tough fights unless it was for all the marbles against a top dog. Thats why they went for Urango.

My problem was that I forgot that Urango was a Southpaw. When they showed the Hatton highlights thats when I rembered that he was a lefty and I was 50/50 on the fight. I didnt think they should put him back in with a Southpaw so fast but I then realized that it would probably be a solid tuneup for Collazo if he cant get a big fight so I was ok with it.

This is the part where you guys should rip the trainer. Everyone is blaming the holding and stuff on Berto but if you watched the fight then it was quite obvious that the trainer had Berto moving the opposite way and he was telling Berto to hit and hold. It was there strategy to do both things and 1 compliments the other. After the fight they said that they moved the wrong way because of Urango's right hook. My question is then why would you even fight him? Why fight a Southpaw if youre not going to use him as a tuneup for Collazo? You wouldnt go that way against Collazo. Collazo is 10x more skilled than Urango but you saw Berto land a bunch against Collazo and didnt hold. The reason why he held this time is because he's already going the opposite way so if he doesnt hold after he throws a punch then he will be badly off balanced and wide open for a counter. It was just bad training. I dont care how good Urango's right hook is, you never ever move the opposite way. The bottom line is that there is no way that Berto could look good with that game plan. Anyone can see that. I mean they admitted that there plan was for them to move the opposite way and hold. How can you blame Berto?

I still blame Berto he showed no balls. Maybe his confidence wasnt there since he knows he lost his last match.

You guys need to understand boxing, seriously. There's nothing wrong with what Berto did.......nothing.

Just because you want to see Ward vs Gatti every single fight doesn't mean Berto has to be ****** enough to do it against a fighter who is nothing more than a ****er like Urango.

Berto had a great gameplan, carried it out and won. It doesn't mean he won't fight differently against other fighters. Every fight is different and I was impressed with Berto's maturity in the fight.

Reed this is the thing I can't understand about people. It's like when people make the same ****** argument about one fighter beating another fighter because he beat an opponent the other one lost to or did better against...

If Berto fights Mosley, are people honestly that ****** that they think he would fight Mosley the same way he did Urango? Or Cotto for that matter?

Every fight is different and you change your game plan according to the fighter you are facing. I was impressed with Berto because the kid is young and he stayed boxing, didn't lose his composure and didn't allow Urango do lure him into a slugfest.

Good solid win for Bert against a very tough , strong fighter.

Well that all depends on which Marg we see after the layoff. I think the Margo prior to the Mosley fight beats Berto in another grueling fight for him. Berto is faster but Marg brings pressure that very few in the sport to day can handle.

Berto could out box him though and if the ref allows the holding like he did vs Urango, I can see the same result.

Nice one C. I agree completely. It was almost a shutout and Urango had no clue in how to attack Berto. People on here think every fighter needs to stand toe to toe all the time and once somebody may have a somewhat less exciting fight then all of a sudden he's a ***** and is ****. I'll admit I thought the holding was a tad much, but if people have actually seen Berto's other fights he doesn't fight like that all the time. Like you said he may fight differently in his next fights.

we definitly expect more from a wbc welterweight champ.

hbo are puttin good money behind this kid.... well it seems like some people think they should put their money on somebody else.... or berto should step up .. and bring excitement.... cos.. with that kind of performance... sooner or later hbo will realize that their are waisting their money...
