What Roach actually said was as follows:
“You should see the sparring,” Freddie Roach said with a raised brow, speaking with a degree of amazement about Olympian Amir Khan’s recent work in Manny Pacquiao’s training camp.
“It’s good work for Manny, and a great confidence builder for Khan,” Roach said. “His height and reach is a challenge for Manny, and Amir is such a great athlete. He’s been doing really well in the sparring.”
The pairing up for training makes sense, and benefits both fighters in different ways. Pacquiao gets to work with a taller, quick handed fighter and Khan will surely gain some experience and confidence having been in the ring with one of the world’s best fighters.
“Khan looks sharp in the early rounds,” Roach commented. “He really comes out strong but I think sparring with Manny might be a bit overwhelming for him and he seems to peak very early with a lot of excited energy. After a few rounds Manny starts to really catch up with him. It’s good work for both of them and it’s sure great to watch!”
