    Bob Poppa regressing.....

He used to be one of my favorite announcers. Everytime we had to make a list of the best I always included him, but his last couple of telecasts on HBO have been pretty terrible. I thought he would rise to the occasion coming to the bigger stage, but he has done the opposite and shrunk from it.

He is starting to make me want to hear Lampley's company man comentary. Say what you will about Lamps and his nuthuggary of HBO's network house fighters, but when it comes to guiding the booth the man is a pro's pro, and he has the unnenviable task of having to control and often appoligize for a drunkard like Merchant. Poppa on the other hand excersises no control over his booth. Kellerman needs to be kept on a leash so he doesn't wonder off on his nonsensical tangents. Lewis who I think is actually pretty decent, needs to be prodded from time to time to keep him as part of the broadcast. Poppa fails at both.

Anyway, does anyone else think Poppa is not performing as well as you'd thought he would?

He was okay, I think he was the better of the three tonight. I agree about Lewis, he's been getting better and better, he also changed his endless love for the jab to the body, he's more versatile now.

I think Lamps has always been the best in the business. I don't quite understand why people say he 'nuthugs'. I believe he goes with whoever has the momentum--as do all national sportscasters.

He was good during the Cintron fight, but he was eh during the other fight.

He's been getting worse and worse though. They should hire Steve Albert.

I never noticed until tonight that Bob Papa is a fatass either. Lampley is probably the best but I actually like Brian Kenny the best altough he normally doesnt do ringside he seems the most logical and not emotional like Lampley.
