There have been others for sure but that one was nationally televised so it's an important one.
It's exaggerated a bit, I don't think nearly that many punches landed, but it was quite a few flush shots. Nor did it really last that long, it all happened very quickly. Basically an unfortunate combination of circumstances, as Paret was out on his feet but still sort of had his guard up and was being held up by the ropes. He didn't fall until the referee stepped in.

Yeah, it was over 20 clean shots in about 4 or 5 seconds on live TV. Most brutal KO I've ever seen.

I am sure it was. I remember watching the video and them breaking the shots down in stills to make it more menacing.

The end result though is the same. I mean it's just as bad as a sustained beating like Levander Johnson got against Jesus Chavez( a fight I thought should've been stopped three to four rounds earlier).

          That ref ******

Oh and it was 14 flush punches that killed Paret. But I really think it was that last punch Grifith landed that sealed the deal for Paret.

Just watched it again, that number seems about right. He threw at least 20 shots total but some of them missed or glanced off. Paret was still weakly defending at the start. I think it was that monster bomb that staggered him in the beginning which really set it up for tragedy, he was very near to out on his feet from then on but his instincts kept him upright and moving backward. Once he fell into the corner the referee clearly should have stopped it, as he had basically gone limp.

The ref in the old days would be charged with accessory to murder nowadays... good ones here.
