Valuev-Chagaev is Still Under Discussion, Possibly Off

I've received a mountain of emails asking me if the rematch between WBA heavyweight champions Ruslan Chagaev and Nikolai Valuev is going forward in Helsinki on Saturday. [details]

Hepatitis? Will that weaken Chagaev should he opt to fight anyway?

So Chagaev has chronic, persisting Hepatitis B. He appeared to be weaker in his last two fights, this explains it.

          From wiki:

"Hepatitis B virus DNA persists in the body after infection and in some people the disease recurs"

Yes, if he has chronic, persisting Hepatitis B he will be permanently weakened. But it seems that he's willing to fight anyway.

lol. what a joke. who cares about Valuev vs Chagaev anyway.
the alphabet belts mean nothing anyway.

theyll probably bring in either a bum or John Ruiz again to fill brittle Chagaev's spot.

So, the report earlier by Tunney, wasn't bogus. If I was Valuev, I wouldn't fight a guy with a blood borne disease and would opt for Brewster. Interesting circumstances to say the least..

Seems like there was some truth in the report you posted earlier. What a shame for Chagaev. He stood to make millions.
