Australian source reports Chagaev-Valuev is off, Meehan-Valuev is on

According to Australia's "The Daily Telegraph", Ruslan Chagaev (25-0-1, 17 KOs) has yet again withdrawn from the Nikolai Valuev (50-1, 34 KOs) after contracting hepatitis. The Daily Telegraph writes that Australian heavyweight Kali Meehan (35-3, 29 KOs) will now challenge Valuev for the WBA belt in Helsinki, Finland.

Meehan's manager George Christodoulou: "Everything looks set to go; we are just in the final stages of negotiations. There was talk Lamon Brewster may take the fight. Someone else said Evander Holyfield was flying over. But we are confident Kali will be fighting for the title."

I'll wait for sources outside of Australia before trusting it.

But if it's true. WTF Chagaev?

Chagaev is turning into the heavyweight Calzaghe (insert rimshot here). JK, but it is incredibly frustrating if this is true. The heavyweight division needs clarity, and, as much as a sideshow as it would be, a Vitali-Valuev unification fight would be a good thing. But Chagaev will be in line for a mandatory shot for sure if this is true, further delaying and complicating things.

BTW, what is this, WWE? "Someone else said Holyfield was flying over..." Is he just going to just challenge Valuev to a rematch on the spot, with ZERO training and no camp? lol

Don't insult a great fighter like Calzaghe by comparing him to Chagaev.

Chagaev has pulled out of fights against Valuev and Ibragimov before. I have doubts about whether his illnesses/injuries are real.

Didn't Chagaev pull out of the Ibragimov bout a few years back due to the same Hepatitis? Unbelievable,,...actually it's very believable because Chagaev has pulled this b.s. in the past...

And what's up with Kali Meehan? They couldn't have given Brewster the nod? What a circus show the WBA and their fighters have become...

Meehan is a Don King fighter, so he'll likely get the nod.

Yes, I hope it's still on.

Here's one of the articles about the fight being off:

There was another on ESB, but now they are saying the fight is still on.

WOW. What a joke, now Valuev is going to keep the belt for longer, just what the heavyweight division needs.

I bet the WBA will make another match between these two clowns.
