    If Mayweather had a "arch-rival"....WOULD

Everyone who hounds him finally give him the credit he deserves? I personally believe that if he did have one....AT LEAST JUST ONE....all the naysayers would have nothing bad to say anymore....all the Greats had a "arch-rival" or a "nemesis"....Ali had Frazier/Foreman.....Roy had Tarver.....Izzy had Marquez....DLH had Mosley.....Mosley had Vargas/Forrest/Winky.....Hearns had Hagler/Sugar....Pac had the Three Amigos *doin the 3 amigos dance*.....
Point being that if you have someone that you can actually test yourself against time and time again....people, fans and the boxing community will see you as the fighter you should be...no matter HOW MANY LOSSES you have on your resume....great fights easily cancel out a loss....(Glen Johnson vs. Dawson). Who out there would Mayweather be WILLING to have a war with to catapult him to the heavens? Mosley is getting to old and Floyd wouldn't get the credit...(haters).....Pac is too small....(pac-huggers)....Berto to green (general consensus)....that would only leave Cotto....in his prime, not old, great fighter, legit WW and great record.
    Any input would be great....discuss

Got to be Cotto for me, which is why I want that fight to happen before Mayweather hangs them up.

But in order for it to become a real old fashioned rivalry, Mayweather would have to lose a first fight between the 2. Or be pushed right to the limit so that a rematch would be necessary. If Floyd were to just cruise to a UD, Cotto would just be one more fighter who couldn't get to him.

Out of all those listed, though, Mayweather-Cotto is the matchup with possibly the most potential for a really intriguing series of fights, were Cotto able to beat Floyd or run him real close in a first fight. Cotto would make a great nemesis for Mayweather.

Pac-Mayweather to me is just a dazzling one-off event.

      It's clearly Cotto.

The Puerto Rican VS Black rivalry would make this insane.

Probably the highest selling PPV of all time if its done right.

I agree, Cotto is the only fighter mentioned here that he would be FULLY credited for. Although, Castillo could have been thrown in as a "PRIOR" archrival

If Floyd was really back for legacy and not money, (which I highly doubt) get Marquez and Pac done with and out the way...(both are big money fights...but will do little for his legacy) and get it on with Cotto. If marketed the right way...Cotto vs. Mayweather could actually pass DLH vs. Mayweather....the Puerto Rican fanbase alone would gurantee over 1.5 mil ppv buys...but I see this happening AFTER Cotto fights at least 1 more challenge after Clottey...and I'm not talking about Pac....a fight with either P. Williams (dealt with a similar fighter in Margocheato and took his Plaster pretty good) or a fight with Angulo....I know that those two a JMWs but they both can easily make 147...or make it at 154 as I know Cotto would gladly take on the fight at that weight...after either of those happening...I can see Cotto/Mayweather smashing DLH/Mayweather PPV wise.....but even better would be Cotto winning the 1st fight via UD, and Mayweather taking the 2nd fight and rubber match via UD then late round TKO....
