I watched Tyson/Douglas when I was a kid. I was only 10 years old but I knew enough about Tyson and had seen him fight with my dad a couple times to know he was the baddest man on the planet. I was upset when he lost, but being 10 I didn't quite understand the magnitude of it.
With that said, the one fight that really comes to mind is Mosley/Margarito. I know it seems silly to pick something so recent, but going into the fight I, and many other people, seriously feared for Shane's health. He took some punishment against Cotto and did not look impressive to me at all against Mayorga and I thought Margarito was going to put a hurtin on him. I was shocked how well shane did and how easy he made it look. He beat the **** out of margarito and everyone including myself were loving every second of it.Comment

I was in the 7th grade at the time. Everyone was depressed as fuck, I didn't like Tito, I wanted B-Hop to win but because of all the hype and me being a casual fan at the time, I honestly didn't think B-Hop stood a chance. Anyway, here in N.Y
It was an major UpsetComment

that's interesting how location and demographic could sway perception...i didnt think tito stood a chance....comin into the fight, i just could not see tito being able to walk and break down the naturally larger, and dominant champ
same with the cotto-margs fight, although miguel looked brilliant early, i knew that the end was nearingComment

I saw Ali v. Spinks, although I was too young to remember much about it. Probably Honeyghan v. Curry.Comment

As I said, I never got to see Tyson/Douglas live. I was only 5 years old at the time, I was probably getting into a fight in Kensington somewhere at that time.I watched Tyson/Douglas when I was a kid. I was only 10 years old but I knew enough about Tyson and had seen him fight with my dad a couple times to know he was the baddest man on the planet. I was upset when he lost, but being 10 I didn't quite understand the magnitude of it.

But I agree with your take on Mosley/Margs. It seems silly to pick something so recent, and hindsight is always 20/20.
But Margarito was on a cloud of hype after that Cotto win, and Shane looked like **** in recent performances.
The general tone that night was that Mosley was going to his own funeral.
Then he flipped the script and didn't just beat Margarito ; he absolutely beat the living **** out of him.
Very rarely have I ever seen a man get hit with that many bombs and still be able to walk out of the ring on his own 2 feet.
How Margarito can still walk and talk right now is amazing to me. Say what you want about him being a dirty cheating prick (he is), but a lesser man would've been out of there by the 5th or 6th.Comment

It's interesting to think that I've never really watched a huge upset live.
Ali/Liston, Tyson/Douglas, Baer/Braddock, Louis/Schmeling I, it seems like most of the giant upsets happened way before my time.
Some other honorable mentions for me, that were shocking to me, at the time.
Pacquiao/Barrera I - I love me some Marco. That fight just destroyed my soul for a good 3 weeks or so. Amazing performance by Pacquiao though, and I can deal with the loss much better now that Pacquiao has steamrolled damn near everybody else, to boot. ****, Oscar, and Ricky didn't even last as long as he did.
Lewis/Rahman I - I knew Lennox was ****ing around with movies and enjoying his celebrity at the time, but I still expected him to win this one. I was stunned, but not shocked.
Baldomir/Judah - Not much to be said here. How the hell does one of the most naturally gifted fighters of the last 20 years lose to a part time boxer with 9 losses who sells feather dusters for a living?
