I work in the media, and i think alot of the reason there is less coverage here is that Tyson has asked for privacy and is not commenting or having reps comment, whereas the travolta's had a pr person speaking to the media, and honestly unless you can get comments from the family in situations like this, its concidered poor taste to provide extensive coverage.
There are multiple factors involved here. Celebrity status certainly plays a role. To say there is no racist element to media coverage is purely wrong though. It's been documented and coverage a million times.

I think Holloway's case really irritated me because around the same time frame, a little black girl in Philly was kidnapped for about a week. It made some tiny news headline, like in the footer, no big deal. The girl was like 7 or 8. She was held captive, bound and duct taped about 3 miles from her home. She ended up chewing threw her restraints and sneaking out and running to her grandmas house. It received no attention and I was so disgusted, because if the girl was a white girl; Jesus Christ would have awoken to help in the search and rescue efforts.

Its sad and I'm sure Mike appreciates the privacy. But I doubt it has to do with the **** convictions and stuff. Mike is still pretty beloved. Its just the way it goes in the media world. Things are still pretty black and white
basically holloway severely intoxicated, they were gonna go back to his place to ****. they were walking on the beach, she started having a seizure. he panicked, called his friend. his friend took her out to see and dumped her body. they weren't even sure that she was dead but they disposed of her body. the douchebag was like "the ocean is very big" with a dumb ass grin on his face. he should get skinned alive

that's the basic jist of what happened, i dont recall specific details.

oh, and later on when the media released the tapes he was like "oh, i was just trying to sound cool. dont listen to me"

The black and white issue is one thing. The fact that Tyson is considered a "bad guy" contributes more here though.

I hope you're not referring to my original post, there's no racial mention what so ever. Tyson is more widely recognized by the way, I guarentee it. To say Travolta is a current movie star is a bit of a joke too. He hasn't starred in a good movie since faceoff, and even that was a bit corny.

I think this may be the case in this particular situation, its uncomfortable to cover i think, because its very tragic, and mike has done alot to improve his life, but i think people may be afraid of how insensitive people who view tyson as a bad guy will respond.

Although i bet if Tyson imploads again i'll bet they'll cover that. I think they may have just forgotten how to cover A mike tyson thats not a trainwreck

Travolta starred in Bolt, which was quite successful, and wasn't it in theatres around the time jett passed away? In the sports world tyson is one of the top recognizable figures no question, but amongst housewives 25-50 its John Travolta. So its really going to be covered based on what demographic the particular station is geared to, ESPN Mike > John - FoxNews John > Mike

TS children die everyday...What makes either of these children that past more important that the countless nameless children that die through out the United States alone ... People are obsessed with celebrity and Hero Worship...Your Telling me Jett Trovolata and Exodus Tyson are some how more important then the child that dies quietly on a hospital bed or a kid that catches a stray on the street... just because of the notoriety of a father with a famous last name???

The world is full of ****.

Blk White Yellow Brown...none of it matters...unless of course it's green.
