Jhonny Gonzalez Plans To Rework His Career

After suffering a three round knockout loss last Saturday in Mexico, former champion Jhonny Gonzalez plans to rework his career by getting a new trainer, learning new things at the gym and working his way back to a title shot. Gonzalez was knocked out in three rounds by WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka. Gonzalez was decked with a heavy left and was out on the floor. He says the punch hurt him so bad that he didn't even remember the knockout. [details]

Jhonny is a very good boxer with solid fundamentals. His punch resistance is simply weak.

He was dominating and was on the verge of finally knocking out Vazquez til he got caught with a counter. He was scoring a shutout vs, Penalosa til that counterpunch landed. De javu vs. Nishioka.

He keeps his distance, and moves well. but, needs to tighten up his high guard defense.

He doesn't sound that confident in his ability anymore, talkin about he's getting a new trainer an ****. He needs to calm down and realize he just got caught, that's it. He should head out to Japan and get right back in there with this guy. Gonzalez does everything right for the most part, just needs to keep his guard up and be more mindfull of shots that come back at him.

Jhonny is an entertaining boxer. He's just failed to win the big one three times in a row.

It doesn't even seem to matter if he's winning the fight and has the other guy hurt, he just loses when it counts.

It almost seems like he has to blow his guy and ko him early or he's gonna get cooked later.

He can beat many guys, just not champs.

This knockout derailed him for a long time.

And not remembering anything until later. He might want to consider retiring after saying that.

When you think about that, it's scary.

That would work if his only problem was the chin, but he has all-around ****ty resistance. If he guards upstairs too much, he will get Penalosaed. Now, Gonzalez will not win a title in this division at least until Vazquez, Lopez and Caballero move up for good, he just tried versus the champion with the lowest KO% and got blasted, I wouldn't want to see the damage that Lopez and Caballero can inflict.

It seems to me he is already in the road to recovery.... think about it, he is not blaming anyone, or saying that he was ok, or the the champ go lucky. So he accepted the fact that he lost to a better prepare fighter.

It's going to be a lonely road and he is going to have a lot of people telling him that he is a looser (starting with this forum). But if he can come back and put this behind him physically and mentally... he still has a chance to give us good fights.
