    ATGs

Just thinking about fighters that are regarded as ATGs that were beat badly within the prime years by an average fighter .

Of the of top of my head 3 comes to mind .

    Tyson vs Douglas
    Lewis vs McCall
    Kostya vs Phillips

Personally I dont think they are ATGs and maybe those loses is a big part of the reason, I dont think ATGs should ever get beat by an average fighter when near their prime ..

Can you guys think of any more ?

    Roy Jones-Montell Griffin I

Okay, Griffin was acting. Official loss anyway.

Edit: I missed the "badly" beaten part.

Lewis was not in his prime years when he lost to McCall.

It was more common for ATGS of the past to lose to lesser fighters in/near their primes.

They were fighting more often, so they were bound to run into a stylistic problem, or an off night.

Its was 6 yrs from retirement in a career that spanned 14 and he was WC in a WT fight so I dont think it would have been all that far from his best boxing years .

Boxing prime and physical prime are two different things, they rarely coincide for fighter to.

Do you consider Alexis Arguello an ATG ? he lost to Vilomar Fernandez in his prime.

You could also say Barrera lost to Junior Jones x2 in his prime. Do you consider him at ATG ?

Arguello is a good point , Junior Jones was a good fighter not an average , but both are valid , well I guess their isnt all that many of them
