Again, I'm trying to prove a point.
Those who dislike Floyd, who really hate him and want to see him lose, also degrade the quality of his opposition. They say Marquez is far too small, and will probably say the same if he beats Pacquiao. Mosley will be too old. Maybe Cotto will have another loss from the Clottey fight, and then if Floyd beat him he'd be shot; washed up.
Truth is; sometimes the detractors are wrong- and sometimes the truth isn't what Floyd fans would like it to be. I like Mayweather, but if Juan Manuel Marquez looks too small for Floyd during their fight, if he is visibly hurt by Mayweather's power punches and simply too physically diminutive to effectively compete at the higher weight- I'm going to admit it!
If the threads popping up saying Mosley's last few opponents allowed him to hide that his legs are gone, that he's aged to a point where Floyd would be able to use movement and speed to outbox him- and its obvious when they fight (if they fight) that Shane isn't the same guy he was even a few years earlier- I'm going to admit that, too!
If Pacquiao seems to have problem with Floyd's size, which I suppose is possible, I'm going to be objective and say- well, looks like Manny was a little too small for Mayweather.
Just as there are detractors who always find a reason to detract from Floyd Mayweather's victories, there are fans of Money May that will always try and give him full credit.
I'm not going to **** on Pacquiao's victory against Oscar, but I don't think any objective boxing fan fails to admit Oscar de la Hoya was weight drained and, for all intensive purposes, over-the-hill during his fight against Manny. Should I give Pacquiao no credit for the win? Of course not! But I'm also not going to hold up Oscar's resume and say, well look at who he beat, Manny beat this guy and should get all the glory that suggests. No.
We need to do more than a pre-fight analysis. The people that begin detracting from a victory before it even takes place are usually just 'haters'. Those that fail to see what occurs in the ring, though, are usually just blinded by love for a fighter. I mean, if it's obvious one of Floyd's opponents are too small, too old, too awkard or rough- why wouldn't we give him credit for a win, yet call it what it is?
This is the plight of a Floyd Mayweather fan, like myself, that wouldn't even join a club supporting him, or defend him unnecessarily, or try and support him when he doesn't deserve it.
Marquez, for instance, is a great little man. I'm going to give him a chance to fight Floyd before I start talking about how he has no chance, he's too small, etc. I'll make the evaluation during the first few rounds on July 18th. Until then, I'll just look forward to the fight. If he does seem to be struggling with a larger man, though, I'm going to call it.
Anyone else have a problem with seeing two sides on these forums, with Floyd as an example, that either always support or always detract, from a boxer you like?
It's pretty aggravating because so many posters that I otherwise respect suffer from such overt partisanship I often have to break from my agreement with them on a variety of issues.
