Cleverly Blasts Boyle, Mitchell and Chisora Get Wins

At the York Hall in London, Nathan Cleverly (16-0, 6KOs) stopped Billy Boyle (12-2, 7 KOs) in the second round of their light heavyweight contest. It was a dominating performance by Cleverly, who hurt Boyle often and pounded his body with sharp punches. After two rounds, Boyle's corner had seen enough and thew in the towel. Next up is a showdown with undefeated Danny McIntosh (10-0, 4 KOs) on July 18. The two unbeatens will face off for the British title. [details]

How comes Cleverley suddenly started punching hard?

It's like that run Witter went on.

since hes left calzaghes gym hes been knocking people out left right and centre - the only logical explanations is thats theres something in the welsh water that drains all your KO power!!!

        LOL..must be it's bizarre.

He is actually a big puncher, no doubt about it.

I remember seeing him fight a guy in America and he was loading up on shots and making no impression and he didn't look like he could **** at all.

But now...damn. I guess he was still maturing and developing and enhancing his technique, also I think moved up in weight from that fight.

        He's a top prospect, imo.

He just wasn't punching correctly. I get the impression that Enzo Calzaghe doesn't teach fundamentals very well. He'll get you in brilliant shape, get you motivated and generally give you good advice in your corner, but don't count on him to teach you textbook technique. Cleverly probably wasn't sitting down on his punches enough or it may just be a case of his body maturing recently - after all, he's still a very young guy.

I've been impressed with him for a while actually. Could be a future champion.

Enzo Calzaghe doesn't teach anything! He's a motivator.

Kevin Mitchell should be getting his title shot soon against that Porto Rican buck?

I was there tonight. Every fighter who was meant to win won. Mostly by weak stoppages. Corrupt as ****.

The refs started giving standing 8 counts to fighters earlier in the evening when they were in no trouble.

The first Walsh fight was a joke. He was going to win but the ref stopped the fight to give the powder puff fighter a TKO to his name. A ****ing disgrace. Didn't get much better throughout the night.

                Kevin Mitchell is the man.

                He looked good.

I'm worried about his hand now after that interview though, he considered retirement-that's wild.

Mitchell stoppage was very weak too imo.

No point in stopping it either. Kevin was just clicking into gear.

calzaghe always said cleverly was a good puncher during sparring and said he's too nervous to settle down on his punches (this was in 2007), he said he will be knocking people out soon.
