Marquez is a dead man walking!

No. I don't feel that way. I had to make this thread to get something out of my system:

Juan Manuel Marquez is the #2 ranked pound for pound fighter in the world. Sure, he'll be smaller than Floyd Mayweather when they fight. Yes, he may be less effective at the higher weight.

Floyd did not use some Jedi mind trick on Juan, though. There was no, "You will fight me at a higher weight." "I will fight you at a higher weight."

Everyone here seems to be coddling Marquez, poor little man, talking about how big, bad Floyd is forcing him up in weight to fight. Guess what? This happens with the bigger draw often. Oscar did it to Floyd. Marquez went up a division to chase Pacquiao.

It's fine if you feel Marquez is going to be too small to compete. That is your right as a boxing fan to have any educated opinion on a fight you want; you may even be right. Juan Manuel Marquez, though, is a tactical warrior. He's a very skilled little man, the lightweight champion, and nobody put a gun to his head. He wanted to fight Mayweather. He wanted the chance at the fame, the respect- and the purse.

Marquez must feel he has a chance. That, or according to some of you is fine being a human Pinata to the big, bad, ex-pound for pound wolf who hypnotized him into comitting career suicide.

Look - maybe he's too small. Maybe he's not. I'm interested in the fight and I'll reserve those judgements until I see him in the ring and fighting that first round on July 18th. If it's obvious the weight bothered him, well, I'll join the rest of you in proclaiming this as fact.

Until then- stop this, 'Floyd made Marquez move up. Marquez is doomed. Floyd forced him to create this circus fight'.

No. Marquez may have a size disadvantage, but he might also have more heart, more finesse from being in the ring more recently- he might have the technical skill to make a fight of it. I don't know.

He's a pound for pound elite who has had a lengthy, respectable career. The guy keeps his mouth shut and fights. Instead of carving his tombstone for him, if you hate Floyd so much back Marquez, support him, and stop assuming he's doomed- you're doing him no favors.

Floyd said, 'Want to move up and fight?'

    "I can't make welterweight."

    "I'm not going to 140."

    "I'm not going to 147."

    "Catch-weight or nothing."

"That's good enough. I'll take it."

He signed the contract, got his mind ready, and is now training for one of the biggest tests of his career. I'm going to let him try instead of insinuating he's such a child, or so unintelligent, he doesn't possess the ability to assess the risks of fighting at a higher weight and has just made a decision everyone behind their computer monitors know is a bad one, and that silly old Mexican just can't figure it out, because Floyd Mayweather forced him to.

    Please stop.

You can think that. That's fine. Marquez WANTED the fight, though. Who doesn't want to dethrone Floyd? Everyone here is acting like Mayweather somehow tricked him up in weight or forced him.

I think Marquez has a chance. Maybe I'm a fool. I've been wrong before. He has technical skill, though, and I'm not sure how much smaller he'll be- physically- until I see him perform on fight night. I agree he's not as big, but I'm waiting to see how much of an issue it becomes until July 18th.

Marquez is being underrated in this fight. While I do think his best years are behind him in the sport, people should keep in mind his power and boxing brain is still intact. If Marquez feels he is losing or being backed up into a corner, he will fight back; his warrior spirit is no joke.

I luv watchin JMM fight and I'll always root for him. But I'd pick Mr boat buyer to beat him at 130-140. At WW, it's a ****in joke. JMM don't give a **** cuz he's a warrior. He's just too damn brave for his own good.

You're killing me with that Mr. Boat Buyer schtick, man. It really almost makes me grimace. If you really want to smear Floyd you should do so using what you feel are the facts. As soon as you get that antagonistic in reference to Mayweather all his fans only read your post so they can make a rebuttal and defend him.

I mean...I guess that could be your entire point, too. Still.

Are you unaware of where that reference comes from homey? It's a sarcastic stab at an old thread, not an insult. I respect you as a poster, so I'll link it to you so you can get in on the joke.

JMM's boxing brain is nothing compared to Floyd's.
