It is an interesting question, it could be argued either way I think. Mosley has beena round the scene longer so ona certain level he is propbably more well known to the general population. For some reason though he jsut does not excite peopel to get buys, unless matched properly. JMM is certainly hot right now, and to people who actually might buy the fight he might be the bigger attraction.
I would actually think they are about equal, I consider them both high level b-sides (they are stars, but whenever they are top billing they do not do big business.
Against Floyd they both play the same role also the white hat to FLoyd's black hat, so really to me what they bring to the table is about the same maybe only slight differences.
JMM is the bigger attraction, but they're around the same. The fact that Mosley fought in his own backyard against a good opponent in Mayorga, but couldn't give away tickets to the fight proves it. Except against De La Hoya which was 8 and 10 years ago, he's been below average.
Mosley-Estrada (Margarito-Cintron I on the undercard with ESPN promo) did around 100k
Cotto-Mosley did 300k
Marquez-Casamayor did 150k with little promo and it was in Vegas
Pacquiao-Marquez did 450k+ (before Manny got the Oscar popularity)
Not only that, but Mosley is not someone you want to fight coming off a year and a half layoff and Mayweather is getting a bigger cut out of the purse against Marquez then he would have gotten against Mosley. Against Marquez it's like an 80-20 split, against Mosley it would be at least 70-30 or in between that and 60-40.
