Floyd: Pacquiao a 'good little fighter'

Floyd Mayweather, Jr., who reigned as Ring Magazine’s No.1 pound-for-pound fighter for almost three years (2005-2008), said that the current pound-for-pound king is a “good little fighter.”

“Pacquiao's a hell of a fighter. In his last two fights, he looked good,” Mayweather told FightHype.com.

He was referring to Manny’s trouncing of Ricky Hatton by knockout in the second round of the “Battle of East and West” and Pacquiao’s eighth round technical knockout of Oscar de la Hoya in 2008’s “Dream Match.”

“But people forgettin' about his fight with Erik Morales that he lost; people forgettin' about him being knocked out twice before,” Floyd said.

Pacquiao suffered KO losses to fellow Filipino Rustico Torrecampo in 1996 and Thai Medgoen Singsurat in 1999.

While Mexican Erik “El Terrible” Morales won over “the Pacman” in 2005 via unanimous decision.

“But he's a hell of a fighter,” concluded Mayweather.

Meanwhile, “Pretty Boy Floyd” also talked about his upcoming bout against Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18.

“He can go out there and fight his heart out. He has nothing to lose,” he said of his Mexican opponent who is the current WBO, WBA and IBO lightweight world titlist and Ring Magazine lightweight champion.

“No disrespect to him, but all the pressure is on me. Because of my zero and they gonna say I'm one of the best, I'm the better guy,” declared Mayweather, who retired undefeated in 2008.

He won six world boxing championships in five weight classes with a 39-0 record, including 25 knockouts and 14 decisions. He was the reigning WBC welterweight champion before his retirement.

Marquez, meantime, stands at 50-4-1 with 37 knockouts.

“I have everything to lose... he deserves a chance, he's a tremendous fighter, he deserves a chance, so like I said Genaro Hernandez gave me my chance so I gotta give him his chance,” he added.

Mayweather won his first world title, the WBC Super Featherweight belt, by TKO when he defeated Hernandez in 1998.
