I'm all for honesty and such, but... admitting that he cries after every loss is getting a bit lame now. He should just suck it up and not let the whole world know it, even if asked.

He probably wants to seem "real" and "down-to-earth". I agree, he's playing it up a bit too much.

The sounds of it, Ricky won't retire.

I bet my bottom dollar he doesn't retire.

That's not enough. He wants you to bet your house.

In real life, that'd be an admirable trait in someone's personality. Especially that of a man. But in boxing, you just do not go around saying things like that! :conf3:

Maybe something's going on behind the scene's that I don't know about, but this fighting underweight, getting your ass kicked and then retiring thing is a bit confusing. I can only think of two explanations - 1, these guys are total morons and don't realize that the fights are nearly meaningless, or 2 - these guys know they're washed up and the champ can't find a decent real opponent anyway (or doesn't want to) so they pull one over on the public and make some cash.

The second option is depressing but plausible, the confusing part is that neither of these guys was clearly washed up. Oscar lost to mayweather in a split decision after looong inactivity, and I can only guess that he hired his ****ty nutritionist shortly thereafter. Hatton put up a decent fight against mayweather but never really figured out a style to stick with in his career.

That brings up another possibility which as that mayweather showed both these guys that they simply weren't at his level and destroyed their minds to some extent. After those fights they no longer viewed themselves as true top level competitors but rather as professional fighters getting paid to do a job.
