I've thought the same about Dundee but I was never 100% sure.

Ali and Leonard were already great when they got to Dundee. We saw this in the amateurs. It seems what he is good at is not molding a fighter to be a great boxer but other things like match-making and other little things to get the fighter ready for a fight so there was somthing to Dundee that was needed. Even when you hear Ray Leonard speak about Dundee on Ringside...Leonard doesn't mention Dundee as a trainer as he does mention the other little things (although I don't remember if he was really clear about it) and the big thing was that Dundee was with Ali so it was a boost of confidence for Leonard because he idolized Ali. Ali probably needed Dundee at the time because he had an "in" in boxing that fighters needed.

I never understood Duva either. The Man from everything I heard is not at Trainer but a manager and a match-maker. He just hogged the cameras with his big fat ass to make it seem like he was a trainer. What was smart on Duva's part was hiring great trainers like George Benton to train his fighters.

What Roger is saying is...I know the ins and outs of boxing. I know how to teach it like Larry Brown knows how to teach Basketball. Like Ted Williams knows everything about hitting a baseball. Give me Ali and I'll give you a more complete fighter/boxer.
