Victor Ramirez defeats Ali Ismailov by SD to retain WBO title

In Argentina tonight, Victor Emileo Ramirez won a SD over Ali Ismailov to retain his WBO cruiserweight title.

He is expected to fight interim titleholder Ola Afolabi sometime in late summer or early fall.

If Ramirez fights the way he fought tonight, Afolabi will win a decision for sure, if the judging is fair.

Ramirez received a home gift decision tonight. Ismailov was clearly outboxing him over most of the very entertaining first seven rounds, but then both became tired and it became a clinchfest.

Even if Ramirez fought the way he fought Alexeev, he would lose IMO. Bad styles matchup for him, Afolabi can handle the pressure and fights off the ropes really well unlike Alexeev.

Yes, Ramirez is just a strong, aggressive brawler without any world-class boxing skills. Ismailov isn't the fastest or most perfectly skilled cruiserweight, but he was making Ramirez miss all night.

Afolabi is a very slick defensive fighter with excellent head movement so he should have no problem.
