How come "Baby" Joe Mesi hasn't fought since 2007?

He was 36-0 (29)KOs. He did fight a couple of average/descent fighters like David Izon, DaVarryl Williamson, Monte Barrett, Vassiliy Jirov ...

I can't remember why he stopped boxing though. Was it an injury? Also, what would have happened if he kept boxing?

He's in politics now. Maybe he could have worked his way back to contender status again, he was looking better and better fight by fight on his comeback but I doubt he would've made a big impact, maybe he could have beaten Valuev but that doesn't mean much.

He had a brain bleed, and then he was allowed to fight again (on a bull**** technicality) and he ****** and went into politics.

Their afraid his brain will explode......

Actually he made the right move retiring, becaues in the future when we all forget about how he fought, he can pretend like he was really good, and talk about "what could have been" and pretend it was circumstances (as opposed to limited skills) that stopped him.

          Vassiliy Jirov ruined Mesi's career.

brain bleed, common boxing injury. Get hit hard causes brain bleed inside the brain. Cant do nothing about it except wait for it to go away . kinda like internal bleeding.

There is some serious misinformation in this thread. Yes Mesi left the first time because of a brain bleed, but he came back. He looked shaky at first, but then he started rolling and demolishing the low level competition, looking great. Then he... quit again. He took a shot at politics. Why? There was never a real stated reason, never a formal retirement that I can recall. I imagine his family talked him out of continuing to fight, but that is just a guess.
