if weeks didnt stop it it could have ended with castillo in a bad condition in hospital, he was out on his feet with only the ropes holding him up

Castillo might have recovered and come back to win a decision. Not out of the question given how hard Chico and Castillo fought that night.

I'd rather not know...he was so fatigued he might've died.

Good question. However, the right call was made by Tony Weeks in stopping the fight. Castillo was standing unconscious and it wouldn't of been worth finding out if Castillo could of continued. It's possible if he fell down he may have recovered... Either to come back and win or continue winning... Or, get knocked out or down again with the battle raging on. The obvious danger is that more power punches were landed on a defenseless Castillo, causing permanent damage.
Yup, just an great fight to reflect on.
              -Peace.

With Castillo dead, probably. He was out on his feet, defenseless, caught against the ropes, and would've only caught another dozen monstrous left hooks from Chico before he was knocked completely unconscious. Chico said plainly that he wasn't going to let him off the hook that time and was going to throw until it was over. And Castillo was completely out on his feet, guard at his waist, eyes glazed and closing, mouth wide open and slack...he was done, and the stoppage by Weeks was legit. It would've been FAR better for Castillo if he'd been knocked down, rather than being held up by the ropes like that.

Chico was gassing out when Weeks gave him extra time to recover before the ending.

That will be one of Weeks' greatest moments in reffing history if not the greatest.

I think Castillo would have recovered and caught Chico with another flurry to put him down for good.

Castillo was pretty hurt but deserved another chance to continue. If he was not such a warrior he should have spit out his mouthpiece for some extra time..lol. The fight was too close to be decided by the ref the first time he gets rocked. Let him go out on the canvas then there won't be any second guessing.
