Fight Night 4 Controls Are Getting Updated Says EA
Intro:
After I got my hands on the Fight Night 4 Demo I was amazed. The game is incredible in every way Graphics, Sound, Fun Factor, and Gameplay but, there is a major negative to the gameplay situation. Similar to Factor 5’s game LAIR that debuted on the Playstation 3 it was released only using motion controls which put a major damper on the success of the game and sadly EA Sports Fight Night 4 according to the demo was about to share that same fate until.
Point #1
I did some research on the fans of this game and the majority ruled in favor of having the option to use Face Buttons just like in Fight Night Round 3 for your punches instead of being limited to the Total Control Analog Punch gameplay style. Well I’ve contacted EA regarding this matter and it was remarkable how they responded. Here’s a quote from one of the employees that’s behind the production of this game.
“Thanks for this, man. Appreciate honest feedback.
The team is aware of the concerns, and though we can’t make any
official comment on the button issue, rest assured it is being
addressed.
The good thing about our current gaming landscape is the ability to
patch a game on day one.
I will keep you posted. Thanks again for reaching out.”
That right there sealed the deal and also shows how powerful us gamers are in this industry and how dedicated EA is as a company for there fan base to remain happy.
Closing
Every company in this industry needs to learn from Factor 5’s mistake and that is “never take away options that gamers want to justify what you think is correct as a developer” – Gerard (HipHopGamer) Williams.
Surely in the end you have to cater to the gamers and options will always save the day for a developer’s successComment

actually it's not. Just last night I was pac and fought hatton and stuck to the outside the entire three rounds. It's not impossible.
The footwork needs to be faster though, I agree, thats my biggest complaint with the demo. But as it's already been posted, that has been worked on since the demo which was an early build of the game.Comment

I doubt it. EA never make a perfect sports game out of fear they won't be able to make the next edition better. They always take elements out of games and then bring them back for the next edition claiming it as a new feature.Comment

Weird... i was able to box ricky from a distance..
the problem is hatton isnt rated low in the game... hes fast himself, and a pressure fighter... so OBVIOUSLY it isnt going to be easy to box him from a distance...
try waiting to try different fighters firstComment

I read that too, but the mods on EA's forum are maintaining that buttons won't be in the game. IMO, putting buttons back in the game would be taking a step in the wrong direction. Aside from the D-pad, every button on the controller is already in use. Button punching takes up the 4 face buttons, whereas TPC frees those buttons up by mapping all punches to the analog. If you put the punches on buttons, the controls for things like Push/Clinch/Illegal/Signature would have to be mapped to the d-pad, which would be terrible in terms of ergonomics.Fight Night 4 Controls Are Getting Updated Says EA

On top of that, they have to think of the future of the franchise. In Round 4, like I said, everything but the D-pad has been used, and using button punching would take up literally every button/input on the controller. What happens in Round 5 when people want new additions to the game? Better to let the old button users get used to TPC now so that they can improve functionality of the games in the future.Comment
