Numbers determine leverage man.Fighting Cotto wont bring the money,Cotto doesnt sell anything.Pacquio will make more money getting 40% fighting Mayweather than he would getting 60% fighting Cotto or Mosley.
FYI when discussing fights, they project numbers to determine who gets what slice. This is a numbers thing. Why do you think Arum is refusing to release his numbers. The moment the public knows the numbers Manny's bargaining power goes south wards. Now Arum is throwing in names like Cotto to appear like he has options. What arum is doing is trying to improve Manny's stock because options have value (use your option evaluation technics)

      50-50 is good.

50-50 is fair for both fighters and that should be it...But it still depends on the PPV outcome of the "Number One VS Numero Uno in Lightweight"

Pac's US and international draw has been increasing significantly over the last few years, and by huge leaps in his last 2 high profile fights. Despite the worldwide economic turmoil and other threats, he's been a part of some of the biggest PPV sales in the history of the sport. He's currently the consensus p4p #1, considered as the most exciting boxer in the planet and widely being regarded as the new face of Boxing.

Now here comes Money May after almost 2 years in "retirement" demanding the lion's share of the purse and acting as if there has been no change in the status quo. He's trying to reclaim his throne with his mouth yet he has to work his way up to the top like everyone else does. First thing on his comeback agenda is to take on a small and bloated lightweight at a catch weight in his favor and ignoring super fights in his own division.

In the meantime, Pacquiao's last 4 fights have been in 4 different divisions and grabbing a 6th division title and a history making 4th lineal strap in the process. Like he said "Well his (Mayweather's) time has passed already... so it's my turn."

          Pac deserves the bigger split.
This is a marketing game.Even when Mayweather was retired he was always in the headlines. If you googled boxing, you would get his name coming out more than anyone else.Brands have value.Even with Mayweather's 2 years absence Manny could njot catch up in numbers,he couldnt beat Floyd's record. He had the opportunity to fight Oscar he couldnt do the numbers Floyd did. Why?He had the opportunity to fight Hatton, once more he couldnt beat Floyd's record. That shows Floyd is the daddy in this and he deserves 60-40.

You talk about the recession. There is no evidence that this has affected top sports.the football stadiums still fill up and the PPV numbers Pacquio generated are a reflection of his worth. The reason is at this level the price is inelastic because this is a premium event

mayweather also has the advantage of being the villian. people attach themselves to what they hate the most for some reason. floyd has a lot of people hating on him run now and gunning for him and i am pretty sure he likes and wants it that way. so say goodnight to the bad guy!

Yes number determine leverage, IF! the numbers you are talking about has a wide gap between them. Pac-Hatton numbers isn't that far away from Fraud-Hatton considering the economic crisis and all.

Yes pac would be getting more fighting Fraud than Cotto or MOsley, but we can say the same on Fraud. Without Pac who else would give him the mega bucks? will he fight Cotto, Mosley or Williams? you wish! Pacman have all the cards. If Fraud won,t agree with split who else will he fight?

In case you haven't noticed, Boxing has been in the doldrums for a while and is being somewhat dismissed and even ridiculed in mainstream sports. Boxing in its current incarnation hasn't lived up to its glory days in the past eras, particularly in the States as far as popularity is concerned. There's even talk of how it's on its last legs and has been overtaken by upstart combat sports like the MMA. So yeah I think that in a recession, it's one of the first to be sacrificed in favor of the more popular sports (like football) in the mind of a mainstream fan/buyer.

Just look at some of the other super fights that did miserable numbers only recently. Jeez... just look at Vegas. It's supposed to be the Mecca of Boxing and has been a ghost town during the mega fights. Only the recent British invasion by Hatton fans broke the trend. Why? Everything has taken a hit in Sin City... tourism, ********, etc., including Boxing. Imagine if Pac-Hatton had taken place in a more ideal financial environment, I wouldn't be surprised if it would've done substantially better numbers than PBF-Hatton. Personally, I'd wait for the official figures to come out.

About the DLH fight, it was being looked at as a joke even before it was signed, where the little guy was gonna be taken out on a stretcher. I admit back then that Pac wasn't as popular and that almost nobody gave him much of a chance to escape the inevitable KO, let alone to win.

Times have changed. Thanks to exciting fighters like him who aren't afraid to take on the biggest challenges and puts on dominating performances, he's capturing the mainstream imagination and the sport is being given a much needed shot in the arm. That has to be considered in any negotiations with him and any other fighter, not just Floyd.

                    Floyd:
                    2.4M vs. DLH > 1.25M
                    910K USA, 1.4M UK vs. Hatton > 825K USA
Whatever the buys for the JMM fight will be > 400K

55/45 Mayweather split, otherwise Pacquiao has decided to duck the Great Mayweather.
