    Valero off July 25th PPV

Lightweight titlist Edwin Valero was scheduled to make his first defense against an opponent to be named on Top Rank's July 25 "Latin Fury" PPV card headlined by Julio Cesar Chavez in Mexico. However, Valero, who signed with Top Rank earlier this year and claimed a vacant belt in April, has elected not to fight because he's unhappy with the purse. "He doesn't want to fight for the money that is available," Arum told ESPN.com. "He wanted a big, big fight, so we're looking for something in September. Valero is off the show, but without any animosity." Arum said he offered Valero $200,000 to fight a handpicked opponent. "He turned that down. He wants more. He only wants to fight in fights that he can get big money for," Arum said. Valero may have a problem in that quest because he's not licensed to fight anywhere in the United States except Texas due to past medical issues. Chavez may face Jason LeHoullier in the main event. LeHoullier was slated to fight junior middleweight titlist Vernon Forrest in a nontitle bout in April, but it was scrapped when Forrest suffered a rib injury. Interim junior flyweight titlist Giovani Segura and junior lightweight titleholder Humberto Soto also may also appear on the card, Arum said.

What I don't get is why he thinks he is some kind of star. $200,000 is a decent paycheck for him IMO.

If he is expecting this multimillion dollar payday he is going to wait a long time. Nobody knows who he is.

Very dissapointed that Valero and Prescott will not be fighting on the card now. A fight I was very interested in and I think most were. That could of been the Wilfredo Gomez and Carlos Zarate of this era, but not as high as far as levels are concerned.

Even though I think a Soto-Valero fight would be better than the one with Prescott, Valero should have taken this fight with that kind of money on the table. Especially when he can't fight anywhere else in the U.S. besides Texas.

WTF is this guy on. $200,000 to score another impressive KO. Then he can step it up. I can't see anyone else out there for him unless Katsidis wants a go. Or maybe Guzman can drop back down to 135 after his spectacular mess up last time. Even with these guys he's going to struggle to rake in $500,000 and he might well lose.

For sure. I was really gearing myself up for that one. At now least we can go around saying Valero ducked Prescott, eh?

He'd duck him like the plague. He knows that he'd be drawn into a bloody war with that Aussie nutter.

I'm surprised he turned that down. I have no idea what hes made in previous fights but if I had to guess its under the 200,000 mark. I don't understand why you turn this down since you aren't a huge star yet and this would be a pretty good win on the resume. Boxing is like any other company, where you have to work your way up the ladder. Beating Prescott woulda set up bigger things and better pay days in the future.
