I think we tend to compare the past to the present because our sport hasn't changed much over the years. In other sports there has been all types of changes but in boxing very little changes. Sure we fight less rounds and maybe fighters fight less but thats mainly for safety reasons, plus the sports business side is a tad different now. Put that aside and you have a sport that has seen very little change since the 1880s. Slice it any way you like fighting is fighting and in 2080 it will be done the exact same way.

I do it too, so Im a little bit of a hypocrit saying this. Im certainly not saying that we should not appreciate past fighters or anything, but I think we get too caught up trying to find ATGs. just because a guy isnt one of the greatest ever at his weight class doesnt mean hes a bum. the variety of styles in boxing is one of the best parts about it, and no two fighters are alike.

Im just saying that we should stop being so concerned about a fighter's ATG ranking, and just appreciate how good a fighter is or will become.
besides, chances are that youre completely overrating or underrating them if theyre still fighting.
        Amen brother.

Thank goodness I am not the only one who thinks this. Its actually quite annoying hearing how the past fighters are basically gods, imo.

Be careful though. You will be called "******" in these parts for thinking that.

this is a big reason that i think boxing is considered dead because all you ever hear or see is past fighters if there was more emphasis on the fighters of this generation maybe non boxing fans would know someone other than tyson or ali
