Floyd Mayweather, left, and Juan Manuel Marquez won't be coming to Grand Rapids to promote their July 18 fight.Let the hype for Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez begin.

The two fighters are launching an official press tour, beginning at noon Sunday in Los Angeles, to promote their July 18 matchup in the ring at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

It does not include a stop in Mayweather's hometown of Grand Rapids.

Instead, the tour is scheduled to span two continents in six days, including appearances Monday in Los Angeles, Tuesday in New York and both Thursday and Friday in London.

"Now that Floyd is back, we need to let the world know about it," Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, said in a press release. "The fight against Marquez will be one to remember, and I am looking forward to getting on the road so the media and the fans can really get a sense of how great July 18th will be for the sport of boxing."

The bout, which is being billed as "Number One/Numero Uno," is scheduled for 12 rounds.

HBO Pay-Per-View is providing live telecast coverage, beginning at 9 p.m. The suggested retail price is $49.95.

"Mayweather and Marquez are two of the best, therefore it is fitting that they will be making appearances in three of the best cities in the world," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions.

"This fight has universal appeal with Mayweather stepping back into the ring and accepting the challenge of the great Juan Manuel Marquez. I know fans around the country and around the world will want to be a part of this unprecedented night of boxing," he added.

Smart of them to leverage FMJ's previous exposure to the British fans.

To the British posters: will this fight do numbers across the pond?

Isn't that the point? 90% of British fans know who he is. 90% of British fans don't know he's fighting. Thus, a promotional event.

Marquez fan rally Sunday in L.A

                By THE RING EditorsBuzz up!

A fan rally for Juan Manuel Marquez at noon Sunday at Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles will kick off the three-city promotional tour for the Mexican star’s fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on July 18 in Las Vegas.

Marquez will be joined by prospect Victor Ortiz and other Mexican-American fighters at the event, which will be open to all fans.
That event will be followed by an outdoor, open-to-the-pubic news conference featuring both fighters at 2 p.m. in front of the Los Angeles Public Library, Central Library (400 S. Hope St.).

The tour will then move to New York City, where a news conference for members of the media only is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Empire State Building, which will include a photo session on the 86th-floor observatory.

The fighters will then fly to London, where a media-only news conference is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Landmark Hotel. Mayweather will have an open-to-the-public workout at the East London Boxing Gym the following afternoon. The time hasn’t been determined.

Mayweather, the former pound-for-pound king, will have been out of the ring for 19 months when he fights Marquez at the MGM Grand. The fight will be televised live on HBO Pay Per View.

"Now that Floyd is back, we need to let the world know it," said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. "The fight against Marquez will be one to remember, and I am looking forward to getting on the road so the media and the fans can really get a sense of how great July 18 will be for the sport of boxing."
