BOOM with Jones Jr. also happened when he destroyed his body's equilibrium and showed up as a ghost of himself.this is the problem on a boxer who dont get hit that much..
their chin is not that tested like delahoyas,mosleys,pacquiaos,JMMs,cottos..
perfect example jones jr..hes doesnt get hit alot..then.. BOOOM..he gktfo..
listen i like floyd but he doesnt have the chin of delahoya, pacquiao,JMM,cotto, mosley etc etc who gets hit alot..
floyd has an average chin and a great defense.. once mosley touch that chin.. damn.. idk what will happen to floyd..
its just hes untouchable with his shoulder roll..
Tarver was even rocked by Hopkins after Tarver pulled the same stunt Jones Jr. did with gaining weight and coming down.
You destroy your body and show up drained and you are ****ed.
You should never go down in weight after a certain point in your career; to risky.
Plus, that shot from Tarver was a hellova shot that he didn't see coming so maybe that puts him down at any point in time.
Jones Jr.'s chin wasn't granite but it wasn't glass.
But if his chin was as bad as some seem to think, he would have gotten starched a long time ago, even when he was at his best and moving. Or even when he fought Ruiz who connected with a big shot that rocked him slightly.
Cotto was hurt by the same fighter Floyd was: Corley. Not sure about Cotto, but the punch that Floyd got hit with was a punch that seemed like he didn't see it coming because it was thrown at the same time Floyd was throwing his. Cotto's problem may have been the weight issue but if true then we can go more towards the Tarver/Jones theory.
Oscar and Shane have the best chin in that list you mentioned. Oh, and for weight again; look at what happened to Oscar when he moved down to 147.Comment

True: Good but I don't think it is granite like say Shane's.
The only time I ever saw Shane seriously hurt was against Forrest and that was after the head-butt incident that messed up his equilibrium. He just never seemed to have his balance after that which set up the big punches from Forrest not to long after.
I think it depends on what division Floyd is fighting at. From 130-140 he'll be fine. But put him up against some big hitters like Cintron at 147 and you may have a problem if they connect flush.
Another key for "chin" that I've always heard is physical condition and Mental focus. Both need to be top notch to take a punch. So even if you have a top notch chin, if one is not at a high level, mental or physical, you risk not being able to take a punch that you may have taken before.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 05-14-2009, 08:42 AM.Comment
