**Sport of BOXING** - TAKE NOTES

Boxing is far and away my FAVORITE sport, it always has been. I think that those who say boxing is dying are fools, and fights like the megafight between Ricky and Manny last weekend are testament to the fact that boxing is once again stirring public interest.

But it has a long way to go. Here are MY opinions on what boxing needs to fix.

    - Ditch almost all of these GOD DAMN BELTS! We don't need the WBO, WBA, IBO, IBF bla bla bla. Narrow it the **** down. There is one, MAYBE two champs at welterweight, middle weight, super middle, light heavy, so on, so on. Being a world champion means **** now.

    - I dislike UFC for many reasons, but before some of you start **** I do not take anything away from their athlete's or their skill. UFC does one thing well. Boxing NEEDS a single, major governing body under which all the fighters do their work. Having such a system allows for MUCH easier negotiations, and we would avoid all the static between promoters and managers with grudges, etc... There are advantages to a monopoly.

    - A standard of competition. When I see fighters like Tony Thompson, Chris Arreola, Michael Jennings etc... just lining up to get their **** wrecked by A-List fighters for the sake of tuning up. It's embarrassing to the sport.

Other people's input! Hook it up!

In my opinion, all the points you made are actually what makes boxing interesting, exciting and unpredictable, all of which, makes a sport more desirable.

I don't care much for the alphabelts, but I just recently realized that it adds to the drama and the politics of boxing. I hate alphabelts, I really do. But if there was only one belt to fight for and only a single governing body to sanctiion fights, it would be too easy for a very influential person or a group to control that governing body, thus indirectly controlling the sport of boxing. This is exactly what happened in the 20's 30's, and up until the 50's when there were only 8 divisions and most fighters were either managed or promoted by certain undesirables, either by the mob, greedy promoters or politicians, who had the power to influence matchups and outcomes through blackmail, thuggery and payolas.

At least now, there is a chance to see champions from different sanctioning bodies fight for a unified title, therefore less chance of protecting the record of a champion in a one governing body sport.

Plus, don't confuse MMA with the UFC. MMA is the sport which has many different leauges, organizations and sanctioning bodies, with different rules, divisions, and champions. UFC is just another unofficial sanctioning body in the sport of MMA.

You think there are mismatches today, you should read about the tomato cans they fed the "protected" fighters in those days. Fighters die more often in those days because of horrible mismatches. At least now, it's not as prevalent. There are still competitive fights out there between a padded fighter and an "opponent" and once in awhile, they even score an upset.

In the early days of one governing body boxing, upsets where either real or fabricated, this is when fighters throw fights to change the outcome of a fight for ******** purposes. You rarely see this now.

The reason there are still good matchups in the UFC is that because there aren't as many UFC fighters as boxers worldwide. There is less to pick from than boxing, therefore, there is still parity.

the only bad thing i can think about UFC in general is that their underpaid. but i mean...i dont see why it has so many haters. it's exciting...it's violent, deadly, bloody, it's complete fighting. but what i always say is that boxing is an art first, then a sport. and most mma fans are idiots, including the marines that are stationed here san diego with me.
