Well, over time athletes get better in my opinion, because you get more breakthroughs with training equipment and getting fitter in different ways, etc.

For example, people keep breaking world records in the Olympics, because the athletes are getting better and better over time.

However, if the olden day fighters were fighting through these days, with the new tactics... variations of training and fitness, etc. Who knows, they might have been better, and might not have.

Of course. It's just natural evolution. Check out the height of the average male 50 years ago compared to now. Not to mention advancements in training and health regimens.

you think elite fighters of today are'nt as strong as the elite fighters of the past?
today these elite fighters know EXACLTY what they are doing to their bodies
they know exaclty how to train, how to recover and how to get the best out of it all
we are'nt going backwards in terms of knowledge

and to say that the fighters of today dont train as hard as the fighters of the past must be the most ignorant bull**** i have ever heard, you gotta be a clueless mother****er to say some dumb **** like that
look at the bodies of those guys in the past, look at the bodies of todays atheletes

Also, they used to fight each other many times, that's how you really discover what works and doesn't work against different styles. I mean, it's not even close. Notice most of the ageless master boxers are called throwbacks. No coincidence. Plus the divisions were loooooaaaded. Do some homework b4 you write, it's not like football or baseball
You know whose a real throwback, stylistically? Mosley. Man seemed like he just stepped out of the 40' and 50's with his punching style.

You want to read my opinion on this matter search a thread called "I Have a ?". It was all about my beliefs on this topic, I think people over rate old school fighters for that reason a lot.

I think where fighters mess up today is that they do not stay inshape year around, inbetween fights they blow up (binging and purging is not very professional behavior imo). In the past fighters stayed in better shape year around because they had to fight more.

To me a fighter from today would be better aslong as they stayed inshape year around, there is really no right answer, I just think it is counter to everythin human civilization has shown over the centuries (we get better at **** not worse, is boxing the only area where this is not true). Look at horse racing, horses have been bread to be what they are for centuries and have reached their peak physical ability (look at the record book for horse racing), human beings on the other hand have only scratched the surface of our physical potential.

Funny you should say that cuz thats how i feel about Mosley...

When i watch the dude as crazy as it sounds he looks similar to Sugar ray
with the combos even down to the way he moves etc...

Not saying Mosley is like Sugar ray Acheivement wise
im just saying very similar in the way they both went about things in the ring

That was a very good try, but it's like this. All of the advancement in nutrition helps (as does training advancement), BUT nothing takes the place of actually fighting. People today train for 2-3 12 rd fights a year. Back in the day they trained for 8-10 fights a yr with the majority being 15rds. That is an inherit advantage for the old timers. That argument negates the Olympic record argument because the playing fields are not the same. In every craft in the world, the more you do it the better you get. End of that. As for bodies, I'm happy to hear you check that out. And if you think muscles mean ****, then frank Bruno would have been champion of the universe. There was planty ripped, hard ass dude back then. Have you ever seen Srr? Hagler? Arguello? Hank? Joe louis?

you ever hear of sparrin? yea the fighters of today do about 15-20 rounds of that a day and with heavier gloves than the fighters back then
so your counter-argument is a fail, unfortunanetly
