Chad Dawson Steps into The Spotlight

By T.K. Stewart - Chad Dawson, king of the light heavyweights according to the International Boxing Federation, is willing to do whatever it takes to make an impression.

How else do you explain the fact that when he was 10 years old and first laced on a pair of boxing gloves that he decided he was going to be a lefty – just like his father?

“I got my style from my father, my father was a southpaw,” explains Dawson, also known as “Bad” Chad. I'm originally a right-handed fighter, but I fight lefty just to emulate my father.

So far the decision to be a southpaw has been a good one. Dawson once sat atop the World Boxing Council light heavyweights before he abdicated the throne in favor of a fight last year against Tarver, the International Boxing Federation titlist. Dawson handed the fast talking former champ a twelve round beat down to annex the belt and become generally regarded as the world's best 175-pounder. Before that he squeaked out a close win over former champ Glen Johnson in another signature win. [details]

Dawson is the present adn future at light heavyweight or even Super Middleweight. Hopkins should avoid Chad for all he will be doing is collecting a check and a beating. Joe Calzaghe SHOULD fight Dawson to prove that he trully was the best light heavyweight, but that fight won't happen. The division is starting to get deeper, but a dearth of talent is going to force Dawson to move to another weightclass in pursuit of big fights. True there is Beibut Shumenov and Tavoris Cloud on the horizon, but the rest are eh. I know he won the first fight with Glencoffe Johnson, but a rematch would be great and Johnson deserved one. I would love to see Kessler/Dawson and Chad against a few other top guys, but the truth is this kid is something special in leu of the proverbial torch being passed to him by the greats before him, he is taking it one combination at a time.

Agreed, Dawson is the man. I dont see anyone beating him right now. The thing is when and if he DOES move down critics will ***** about it saying he's picking on smaller guys.

Hopkins, Calzaghe and Jones all looked the other way. So all he can really do is beat Tarver and Johnson again.

Anyone think he could move up to HW instead of moving down to SMW? Maybe fight Haye IF (lol) he beats the Klits..... Then again not to many big money names up at HW either.

Yea, Dawson could really make a point by finishing him early. I think Tarver is just selling out the "I've never been beaten in a rematch".

Hopkins can't ignore him forever. The 'He isn't a big enough draw' won't wash IMO. At least Calzaghe retired.

Yea but Hop is 44-45ish, he doesnt need Dawson.

Joe is what 37 now? If Joe wanted to make a point he would have fought Dawson. Like Max Kellerman said, He (Dawson) is "THE MAN" to beat... there is NO ONE else. Joe wanted no part. He's smart not GREAT.....
