I love how a couple of people can talk in the behalf of all Mexicans. Mexicanos Vs. Mex-americans to me the only division there is is within ourself. As far as a living legend not that many from any race would consider any boxer a lengend. Boxing fans are a minority.

    From Wikipedia
A legend (Latin, legenda, "things to be read") is a narrative of human actions that are perceived both by teller and listeners to take place within human history and to possess certain qualities that give the tale verisimilitude. Legend, for its active and passive participants includes no happenings that are outside the realm of "possibility", defined by a highly flexible set of parameters, which may include miracles that are perceived as actually having happened, within the specific tradition of indoctrination where the legend arises, and within which it may be transformed over time, in order to keep it fresh and vital, and realistic.

Did you mean Mexican-American soldiers or Mexican soldiers? If they were Mex-Ams that would explain the love for ODLH.

BTW, you still sound like a hater, though.

                Carnal,
I know for a fact that not all mexicanos hate DLH. That would be his grandmothers, dad, tios…… Seeing DLH fights in Guadalajara for years I know not everyone in Mexico hates him. I say there are mix feelings 50/50, +/-(10).
                Legend NO! Like/dislike different story.

I would like him more if he uses his status to better where he came from.

The thread starter is not being a hater, he's just "scratching his head" wondering what the ODLH fascination is about. Yes, DLH was a gifted athlete/Yes, DLH was a highly skilled prizefighter/Yes, DLH is probably the best looking guy in the history of boxing and YES, he lost all his big fights.

To be a legend, you've gotta win the big ones. Signing a contract to fight the best is easy, winning fights against the best is a differerent animal altogether.

I'll sign a g*ddamn contract worth $20 million to fight f**king Mike Tyson and I'm 5'7 and a buck 70 these days. But beating Tyson is a whole new ballgame.
