It's weird how I still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I got word of Chico's death....

...It was just two days after the dreaded failure of "The World Awaits".

And everybody here was still discussing that colossal suckfest.....

Then I found out and for the only time that I can recall : I didn't care about boxing.

I remember watching the "Friday Night Fights" tribute to him on "Ringside Remembers" as a single tear streamed down my cheek.

I don't feel "connected" to many fighters, but Diego was definitely one of the few whom I did.

His personality bled through the Television screen, and I just felt it when he was doing his thing in there.

      Goddamn I miss that guy......

Most people tend to believe that was was seriously depressed at the time of the accident.

Whether or not he wanted to die, nobody will ever know.

But he was on a pretty significant losing streak, and hadn't won a fight in 2 years.

He was also too big to make 140 anymore, and too small to compete with anybody at 147.

His life in the boxing game wa basically over at that point, and he was having a hard time accepting that.

You could really hear it in his voice in the post-fight interview after the loss to Clottey.

he shouldhave never been in there with a guy like Clottey his first fight at 147. Clottey is big for a WW to begin with that fight was very sad to watch I was aggrivated to the gills watching Chico get slapped around by Clottey like that....Lefty

I feel 'ya. But that was Chico, man. You couldn't tell him he didn't have a chance against any man that was willing to fight him.

And even though he clearly lost, he still fought his fucking heart out with everything he had.

There'll never be another quite like him.
