By Cliff Rold - While it doesn’t engender a ton these days, what discussion there has been about the Middleweight division proper (160 alone and not it’s currently superior 168 lb. cousin) largely has centered on the possibility of a showdown between World champion Kelly Pavlik (35-1, 31 KO) and IBF titlist Arthur Abraham (29-0, 23 KO).
The undercard of Pacquiao-Hatton last weekend may have gone a little Bonnie Raitt, giving us all something to talk about beyond the scope of contemporary pound for pound debates.
Granting some of the three Middleweight-ish fighters featured in the evenings first three bouts will contest at 168 and above, when you lump the youth pools of both classes together, the Middleweight futures market looks worth investing in.
The three fighters on the undercard were former World Amateur champion and Cuban defector Erislandy Lara (5-0, 3 KO), Russia’s former two-time World Amateur champion Matt Korobov (5-0, 5 KO), and former U.S. and two-time National Golden Gloves winner Daniel Jacobs (16-0, 14 KO).
Jacobs, who has been a professional since December 2007 versus Lara and Korobov who turned pro late last year, was matched the toughest and was the only one of the three to go the distance. [details]
