Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. bobs, weaves from Uncle Sam
Retired World Boxing Council champion and Grand Rapids native Floyd Mayweather Jr. owes $6.2 million in federal income taxes, according to public records.
Mayweather, 31, a welterweight often described as the best pound-for-pound boxer, announced his retirement earlier this year and held a bash in his hometown, during which he threw $30,000 in $100 bills into the crowd. See below.
It's been a rocky retirement, though. In September, Mayweather, who heads a music label called Philthy Rich Records, claimed burglars broke into his home and stole $7 million worth of ***elry.
It's not all bad. Mayweather did get a reported $20 million payday earlier this year to grapple in Wrestlemania XXIV.
Now, he's considering a comeback.
What's owed:
The IRS filed a $6,165,735 lien against Mayweather for unpaid incomes taxes on Oct. 9 in Clark County, Nev. He owes the money from 2007, according to the Clark County Recorder's office.
His side:
Mayweather's representatives could not be reached for comment. Phone messages left at his charitable foundation and promotions company Monday were not returned.
