I am having trouble understanding why people are upset that Floyd is fighting JMM. First off, people should be commending him for not fighting a tune-up. Dude hasn't fought since the Hatton fight in 07.
And if he wanted a fight quick, he did not have many other options that he could announce May 2nd.

#1 Mosley- waiting for Pac-Hatton winner
#2 Cotto- fights Clottey June 13th, promoted by Arum which is problematic
#3 Margarito- suspended
#4 Clottey- fighting Cotto
#5 Quintana- scheduled fight at 154
#6 Berto- Managed by Haymon
#7 Collazo- Coming off a loss, casual fan does not know him, promoted by King who Floyd just turned down
#8 Judah- Already defeated, no one cares about that fight
leaving Hlatschwayo, who no one has heard of in the US, is coming off a draw, having promotional issues-best WW available for July 18th
Floyd should not move up in weight when he plans to fight Pacquiao. The fight w/ Pacman would likely be at a catch weight (144ish) so that would be going too high. Even if Williams could make 147, and Floyd wanted the fight, hes managed by Haymon so its not happening.
At 140 the best options are Bradley and Witter. Neither have been on HBO let alone a PPV. Bad financially and neither are as deserving as Marquez.
Floyd picks the guy who may have beaten his future opponent Pacquiao twice, is the most well known, works with a promoter he can do business with, and called him out. Not like anyone forced Marquez into this, after his fight w/ Diaz, he said, I wanna fight Mayweather, and Mayweather answered the challenge. What is wrong with that?
