As a Mayweather fan, I think that this makes the fight easier to make. Let's say its 1.7 million US buys. That obliterates the 900,000 US buys that Mayweather-Hatton did. So, even if Mayweather-Marquez does well (let's say 750,000+) Mayweather will probably be willing to take 40-45% of the money without much complaint.
Remember Floyd took 30% and all of DLH's terms without so much as a complaint. He took short money against Hatton knowing that it'd end up being more than $20 mil. If he knows that a fight between he and Pacquiao could do 2+ mil buys he'll take it as long as he knows he can make $20+ mil. And for those of you who'll complain that he's "ducking" Mosley remember that Floyd would have fought Mosley if they'd offered him more than $8 mil. But come on, $8 mil to fight Mosley or $20+ mil to fight Pacquiao? It's not a question. Just like $8 mil to fight Margarito or $25 mil to fight DLH.
I think these PPV numbers are good news. Especially since now so many people think Mayweather can be beaten. Maybe now he'll finally get some respect for winning a big fight.Comment
