Where did the lineal championship start for this weight class? I know absolutely **** about the history of the tiny weight classes. I'm guessing it was Sasakul beating Yuri whatever his name was...
Where did it start so I can see this for myself.
I'm not trying to to discredit Pacquiao in any way, I'm just curious and am always eager to learn more.
Pac didn't win a Ring title at 12. They weren't doing titles then. Miguel Canto was the start of a continuing lineage. Ring recognized him after Canto beat Oguma in the 70s; there were also only two titles then and Gonzalez won the WBA belt during Canto's BC reign after canto beat him a couple times. That's your line. Ring recognized in until the late 80s and ignore their own history when they restarted title giving in the 00's. It's one of the wqeakest things they did.
some but not all, the 135 weight class lists pernell as being the last linear champ, and 147 for some odd reason is missing spinks and judah and mayweather and balomir
So this means Mayweather only won 1 lineal world champ?
JMM is not even recognize as LW lineal world champ.
CBZ is one source for lineage but they don't always agree with some modern takes (i.e. recent Ring desginations) but they are also updating their Encyclopedia right now. Most feel 130 for Pac, v. JMM, was enough to confer the legit World title and CBZ may yet recognize it. They didn't update for most of 08.

They should... jesus, has there ever been a fight at a weight when it was so incredibly clear that only two fighters mattered at that weight?
