So how long does Floyd need to go in this match to know where he is Mentally and Physically to be "back"?
I think if it ends to soon, it might not be a good thing because if Pac, Cotto or Shane is next, the longer those fights go, he might tire quicker. No matter how much sparring he does, it might not be the same as the actual fight under the lights against Elite Fighters trying to knock you out.
Take for Example Kostya Tszyu: Forget how old he was but look at the inactivity. We know 9 rounds in 3 years isn't good but the layoff going into the first Mitchell fight was almost 2 years. He destroyed Mitchell in quick fashion but it was brought up after the fight, specifically by Hatton, that the fight didn't last long enough to know where Tszyu was at stamina wise...which I would add knowing where he was at both Mentally and Physically since I'm not sure he was prepared for a grueling match in his next fight this soon.
Now Floyd has some advantages over Tszyu: Floyd is 32 and not 35/36. Floyd also keeps himself in relatively good shape and he doesn't have to drain himself to make weight...although I'm not sure exactly what the catch-weight is so I'll have to look that up. Floyd although has some injuries wasn't coming off surgeries. So he is in relatively better shape. Mental side though; not so sure.
But, point still is: How many rounds does he need to fight in this match to prepare himself for Pac, Mosley, Cotto?
Note: That is if Floyd actually beats JMM.
And do you think he needs to take some shots in order to get his body and head used to being hit again or can sparring do the trick? Maybe he should wear no head-gear for some of his sparring sessions...no?
Just wondering because I remember hearing Holyfield say about Tyson that he hadn't been hit since coming out of prison. Of course, 3 years isn't 1 1/2+ year layoff...but just wondering.
