The UK needs a David Haye win

With Ricky Hatton being decimated at the hands of the Pacman and the retirement of Joe Calzaghe the UK now has no marquee talent left.

Carl Froch is a few fights away from being given a harsh boxing lesson and the UK press all dislike Amir Khan (They are now all fully aware that he is a flush punch away from being KO'd)

This leaves the UK with David Haye as the sole hope of maintaining mainstream interest in boxing in the country. If David Haye is easily beaten then we are left in a position whereby we have no talent whatsoever that can attract interest towards boxing in our own country.

I pray to god that David Haye wins his fight and carries the torch for the UK boxing scene for the coming future, if he fails then we are left with nothing until Kell Brook hits the bigtime as none of our prospects have the potential to step upto the plate and become the next british megastar.

This will no doubt affect boxing coverage in the country and as a boxing fan I do not want to see this happen.

I think most British fans will admit that Froch is going to be taught a boxing lesson by a big name sometime in the future.

Heavy hands and a good chin will only get you so far in boxing.

British boxing is fine as it is.

We have quite a lot of young prospects coming through the ranks, I'm more excited about them then Khan/Hatton.

          Haye will win, don't worry.

I don't see Haye winnin against Wlad. Puncher's chance makes him live, but I think Wlad takes him out.

Well, what about Kell Brook, when recovered from his injury?
He's one crazy talent, more talented than Hatton in my opinion.
Hatton was a training product while Brook shows the signs of pure talent.

Kell Brook is our biggest prospect but I'd say he is about 3 years away from making the big time.

I think UK boxing will benefit on the domestic level with no real big stars. It might force promoters to start matching up their fighters with real, quality boxers, rather than record padders to get public interest back. Instead of say Khan vs Earl, we have seen Khan vs Murray. Instead of Calzaghe vs Pudwill, we may have seen Calzaghe vs Froch, or Calzaghe vs Johnson. UK boxers need to start earning stardom, rather than automatically receiving it.

Our olympic pros fought in front of 15,000 people for their last fight. They should be fighting in sports halls, and restaurants for their first matchups. As I said, stardom is too easy in Britain. It makes you comfortable, and takes away your hunger, drive, and passion. No wonder so few make it to the top from these shores.
